====== How to get access to the LHCb pit (LHCb control room) ====== How to have fun at 100m below surface and how to fill an afternoon getting the paperwork done. ===== Take the necessary courses ===== *Go to http://sir.cern.ch *Have a look at the courses you have taken. For underground access you need the courses 1,2,3,4,4b. *Take the courses if necessary. *Got to http://edh.cern.ch, Access Requests and request access for LHCb_U. *Make sure you are on the list for people needing a dosimeter. You may need to write the responsible person. *Subscribe yourself to the Radio Protection Course. You can do this by going to http://cta.cern.ch, search for radiological, and sign-up for a date. The last two points are also covered here: http://lhcb-background.web.cern.ch/lhcb-background/Safety/Dosimeter.htm# *Follow the Radio Protection Course. Try not to fall asleep... ===== Get a medical certificate ===== * Go to a doctor, let your blood be checked and have him fill out the form: http://service-rp-dosimetry.web.cern.ch/service-rp-dosimetry/ , go to Medical Certificates, Example of medical certificate and choose the language of your choice. ===== Get a dosimeter ===== * Go to building 55 (right at the entrance B of the CERN Meyrin site), to the second floor and get a dosimeter (using the medical certificate). Remember that the dosimeter has to be read once a month. If you are not at CERN, you can deposit it in the cupboard in the corridor of building 2, first floor, opposite and slightly to the left of the LHCB secretariat. It is then read out by the secretariat. ===== Do the biometry ===== * Go to building 55, first floor and get your retina scanned. Now you are done! You are now officially allowed to get penetrated by ghastly neutrons and burnt by terrifying gamma rays.
