Front-End-Board

Both the ACM and the LTA use the same front-end board, which was designed at the University of Zurich. It implements Low Noise, 1 GHz FastFET Operational Amplifiers (ADA4817-1), followed by a High-Speed, ±0.1 μV/°C offset drift, fully differential ADC driver per channel for a total of four channels. The ADA4817-1, based on Analog Devices provide ultralow noise (4 nV /√Hz), low offset voltage (2 mV maximum), and high input impedance. Power is supplied by the ACM/LTA board with a ± 5V input, regulated by a pair of low dropout regulators (LTOs) to 4V. Connectivity is assured through the Samtec Edge Rate Series High-Density Rugged connector with 60 contacts, supporting bandwidths up to 56 Gbps. Additionally, the ADA4945-1 fully differential amplifier is used in the design, offering selectable power modes. It operates across a broad power supply range of 3 V to 10 V and is ideal for driving high-resolution ADCs, such as SAR and Σ-∆ types. In full power mode, the ADA4945-1 operates with a quiescent current of 4 mA, while in low power mode, it consumes only 1.4 mA. The adjustable common-mode voltage and internal feedback loop of the ADA4945-1 ensure excellent output balance and suppression of harmonic distortion. These amplifiers, based on Analog Devices silicon germanium (SiGe) process, deliver a low voltage noise of 2.0nV /√Hz, ensuring high fidelity in signal processing. Frontend Schematics
